Small-batch serums and body milk, cold-pressed in Copenhagen from botanicals with a grower's name attached. Two hundred bottles at a time, numbered by hand, with the ritual printed where you'll actually read it.
The shelf
Small runs, whole botanicals, and the studio table where the hands part is taught.
Sea buckthorn, rosehip, and a fortnight's maceration of calendula — a face serum the colour of late light. Three drops, pressed in with warm palms, morning and evening.
Fyn oat milk whipped into calendula-steeped sunflower oil. It sinks in before you've found your shirt, and leaves a scent of warm hay and citrus peel.
Nine botanicals for the last step of the day. Warm a few drops between your palms, breathe in once — apricot, fir, something green — and press outward from the centre of the face.
The shelf in miniature: serum, body milk, ritual oil, and a linen cloth, boxed with the ritual card. The usual first order, and the usual gift.
Fifty minutes at Store Strandstræde: cleanse, warm compresses, gua sha, and the full ritual worked slowly into the skin. You leave polished, unhurried, and smelling faintly of apricot.
The house
Veloura began in 2019, when Astrid Holm — a perfumer's apprentice with a botanist's patience — started pressing sea buckthorn at her kitchen table in Nørrebro. The first thirty bottles went to friends. The next two hundred sold out from a folding table at a Saturday market, and the folding table eventually became the atelier on Store Strandstræde.
The method hasn't changed, only the address: whole botanicals from nine growers we visit, cold-pressed and macerated in small runs, poured and numbered by hand. When a batch isn't right, it becomes soap for the studio sink. That is the entire quality department, and it has never once been lenient.
Worn daily
“I finished the first bottle in six weeks, which has never happened with a serum in my life. The scent — dried apricot, something green underneath — makes me do the ritual properly instead of slapping it on in the dark. I now note batch numbers like a wine person.”
“The body milk ended a fifteen-year drugstore rut. Skin drinks it, shirt goes on immediately, scent stays until lunch — that's the entire review. My mother now receives a bottle quarterly, like a small pension.”
“I booked the studio facial jet-lagged and grey and left looking like I'd slept a week by the sea. Bought the whole shelf on the way out and regretted nothing, not even at customs.”
FAQ
Batches, skin, shipping, and the studio — answered without mystique.
Two hundred bottles per run, pressed, macerated, and poured across roughly two weeks, then numbered by hand. Small runs mean the sea buckthorn in your serum was on the branch weeks ago rather than in a drum for a year — the colour shifts slightly between batches, and that's the point.
They're short on purpose — nine to fourteen ingredients, no synthetic fragrance, nothing that's only there for theatre. Most sensitive skin does well, but skin is personal: start with the sample trio, or come patch-test at the studio over a coffee.
Across the EU in two to four days, and to the UK, US, and the rest of the world in five to ten. Everything travels in paper and card — no plastic, no foam — with your batch number printed on the box so you know the week it was poured.
Cruelty free entirely — formulas are tested on the founders and on willing friends. Everything is vegan except the winter balm, which uses beeswax from a keeper on Amager; its label says so in large, unembarrassed type.
Please do — Store Strandstræde 9, Tuesday to Saturday. The whole shelf is out to try, patch tests are encouraged, and if your timing is lucky you'll watch a batch being poured. Facials book out about two weeks ahead.
